Nomura chose Fletcher Priest’s 800,000 sqft building at 1 Angel Lane as its new headquarters. Located on the north bank of the Thames next to Cannon Street station, it takes advantage of its setting with a new pedestrianised approach to the river and a new riverside public square with spectacular views.
Nomura’s entrance and reception runs the full length of this new south-facing public space following the gradient from Upper Thames Street, the old Roman riverbank, to the Embankment, the Victorian riverbank.
The 220-seat high quality auditorium, with its large ancillary space, is attached to the main reception area and is successfully used for presentations to clients, external audiences and staff. Drawing on Fletcher Priest’s extensive experience in the media sector, the state of the art auditorium incorporates sophisticated projection equipment integrated into the sweeping curve of the riverside building.
Their design follows the approach to other interior spaces and is redolent of the riverside heritage of the site with finishes in natural materials such as timber, stone and leather that are detailed with robust simplicity.
