Gunnersbury Station lies on both the District and London Overground lines in west London. The existing station spans a railway cutting, and is entered through a passageway under an office tower, with a secondary entrance via a pedestrian footbridge. In both cases the station is concealed from the street.
The new station gives greater presence to the entrances and improves wayfinding, extending the station concourse and making it brighter and more spacious. A redesigned ticketing area and gateline increases capacity and improves passengers flow during peak hours - a response to expectations of continued growth in passenger numbers associated with the Chiswick Park office development and other planned developments in the immediate area.
The station and footbridge are clad using a combination of translucent and transparent glass channels. At platform level new surfaces, canopies, seating and lighting complete the station’s transformation.
