Floating the Brunel Building

We recently designed a unique marketing suite to promote the Brunel Building, our 17 storey office building for Derwent London which is under construction along the Grand Union canal.

We worked with a traditional boat builder in west London to convert a 100-year old Thames barge into a gallery where visitors can see an animation, kinetic 1:100 scale model and prototypes of the structure and materials. After being towed along the Thames from Brentford Dock, the barge was moored alongside the site of the Brunel Building, which is due to complete in 2019. Inspired by the area’s engineering tradition, it has a distinctive structural steel exoskeleton to deal with complex site restrictions and respond architecturally to Brunel’s Paddington Station on the opposite side of the canal.
