East Village is London’s first Olympic legacy neighbourhood, on the doorstep of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The new neighbourhood will deliver high-quality new homes for individuals, couples and families, with a range of options to suit everyone from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom townhouses, private rental to shared ownership and intermediate rent.
Set in 75 acres of land (equivalent to St James’s Park), the neighbourhood is characterised by its green spaces, offering five park areas, traditional garden squares teeming with nature, courtyards and play areas. The East Village Wetlands, the largest new wetlands in western Europe, not only offers residents access to a plethora of wildflower meadows, lawns and wildlife but plays a fundamental role in the village’s innovative water recycling scheme.
Inside the homes, similarly smart innovations are saving water by capturing water from sinks, showers and baths and re-using for things like flushing toilets and irrigating the grounds. Living green- and brown-roof gardens have been planted on all buildings over 100m high to complement the local environment.
All apartments above ground floor level have at least one balcony and a partially-enclosed glazed winter garden. As well as this, every home in East Village is designed to offer spacious and comfortable living. This is evident in the deep and chamfered window reveals, full-height glazing and daylight-reflecting aggregate used in the pre-cast concrete.
